The Kårstø gas plant in Norway has been constructed in phases (1985, 1993, 2000, 2003 and 2005). After a period of capacity expansions focus is now on upgrading and modernization of the oldest parts of the plant related to ageing, outdated equipment and compliance to updated safety standards and Authorities requirements. The main challenges have been evaluation of the benefits, scheduling, complex modifications of a plant in operation without regularity losses, and safety related to simultaneous operations and project execution and the total activity level at the plant.
