The dehydration of natural gas is arguably the most widely used process in the upstream and midstream sectors of our industry.  Natural gas must be dehydrated to be sold, transported and processed.  Over the past 50-60 years three technologies have dominated. Future gas dehydration units will treat gas with much higher concentrations of non-hydrocarbons (H2S, mercaptans and CO2).  This paper provides a brief history of gas dehydration processes; summarises current status and discusses potential future technologies as well as future research and development requirements.
