Acid Gas Removal Unit corrosion
The presentation examines the common causes of corrosion in acid gas removal units. The importance of selecting the appropriate chemistry and metallurgy in grassroots AGRU designs is discussed, which may be different depending upon the specific gas sweetening application.
A changed feed gas composition may encourage the gas plant management to operate the plant outside its design envelope. This can reduce OPEX in the short term, but cause corrosion and significant CAPEX in the medium term. Equipment reliability problems, can lead to modified operating conditions during the lifetime of the plant. These changes may cause corrosion directly.
Pictures of several erosion and corrosion incidents will be shown, and the probable reasons for the corrosion / erosion will be discussed, and potential remedies suggested.
