Design Considerations of Water Wash Installations.

Carlos Frey, Huntsman Corporation, USA

This work is sponsored by the Gas Processors Association Technical Committee Section A. The original purpose was to gather recommendations and considerations from member companies with experience in Water Wash installations designed to minimize incursion of contaminants to Amine Units as well as losses and entrainment from streams exiting those units
Three main types of installations are described, addressing three main issues related to the use of amine solutions for hydrocarbon sweetening:
1) Water Wash of Inlet Gas to Amine Absorbers
2) Water Wash of Treated Gas Outlet from Amine Absorbers
3) Treated LPG Water Wash
The paper describes installations and process variables based on input from member companies, mainly from practical experience only. It has been approved by the Technical Committee Section A for dissemination and sharing with other GPA regional organizations
