The Hot-Seat

A message from our Chairperson, Gary Bowerbank.

"In recent weeks we have seen the importance of our industry being highlighted in both the escalating costs of wholesale gas prices as well as the impact we can have on the Net Zero targets. By working together, learning from each other and investing in the right areas I am confident we can meet the energy demands of the future without compromising the present. At GPA Europe we continue to enable this by connecting the tradition Gas Processing sectors with the emerging Future Energy businesses, for example in our recent Biogas webinar (https://gpaeurope.com/category/presentations) as well as our future Carbon Capture and Hydrogen webinars (https://gpaeurope.com/events).

Later this month we will be having our Technical conference and AGM (https://gpaeurope.com/event/gpa-europe-virtual-agm-technical-meeting-2021), where there will be range of paper presented as well as the opportunity for members to give their feedback on GPA Europe – how we are doing and what we can do better. We look forward to engaging with you all there."

Paper of the Month

This month we are looking back to one of our Hydrogen Papers from Matt Mardell, Shell Global Solutions. Presented at our Virtual Series, December 2020.

"The Shell Blue Hydrogen Process"

"To meet net-zero-emission ambitions, low-carbon hydrogen production must increase rapidly. “Blue” hydrogen production from natural gas along with carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) is necessary to bridge the gap until large-scale hydrogen production using renewable energy becomes economic. The cost of carbon dioxide (CO2) already makes blue hydrogen via steam methane reforming (SMR) competitive against grey (without CCUS), and the Shell Blue Hydrogen Process (SBHP) further increases the affordability of blue hydrogen for greenfield projects."
