"Following on from this year’s International Women’s Day, I thought it was worth reflecting on the gender balance in our industry and indeed within the GPA Europe. While there have certainly been improvements our industry, there remains more to do to ensure we all work in a tolerant and supportive workplace where all people are valued and feel free to be themselves. What have you done to improve the balance? As GPA Europe, we strive to become more diverse in terms of gender, age, location (truly European) and sector (more operators). To support this we will continue to provide a platform for Young Professionals via our training events and providing speaking opportunities, ensuring a diverse mix of speakers at conferences and adopting gender neutral terms such as chairperson and by having a 4 out of 7 of our leadership roles held by women (meet the team). Thank you from all of us at GPA Europe to Paul Stockwell from Process Vision and Mike Lewis from Xodus Group for presenting at our last Virtual Technical Session on 25 March. Paul's presentation detailed Process Vision’s development of a new snake robot system to undertake inspections and maintenance tasks while the process is at high pressure. Whilst Mike's presentation highlighted a root cause analysis of the failure of internals within a low temperature separator.

Paper of the Month

This month we are looking back to a paper on FLNG from Lars Odeskaug, Front Energy. Presented at our 2019 Spring Conference:

"Offshore FLNG Production Using the Cefront Hull Concept"

"Natural gas is the cleanest and most environmentally friendly fossil fuel, and as global demand for natural gas increases, the development of offshore Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) production technology is becoming an important factor in maintaining sustained growth. Although offshore FLNG production concepts have been the focus of research and development for decades, it is only in the last ten years that a few FLNG projects have achieved a Final Investment Decision (FID) and have progressed to detailed design and construction.

Cefront FLNG vessel provides a more stable and economical platform for the offshore gas pre-treatment and liquefaction processes than conventional ship-shaped hulls. It is a further development of the axisymmetric hull and is more fabrication “friendly” and thereby less costly than earlier designs. The Cefront FLNG vessel has a more efficient topsides layout than the axisymmetric units, and at the same time it has significantly less pitch and roll motions than a conventional ship-shaped hull. This eliminates the need for expensive turret and swivel solutions."
