Northern Lights Project Tour
A key highlight of the 2026 Conference will be an exclusive technical visit to the
Northern Lights CO₂ Transport & Storage facility in Øygarden.
This project tour will provide delegates with a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insight into one of Europe’s most significant CCS developments, showcasing large-scale CO₂ transport and permanent storage infrastructure that is supporting the energy transition.
Places for the technical visit will be limited.

Paper of the Month
This month we are looking back to a paper from Niku Nobakhti, Costain. The most downloaded paper from last month, presented at the GPAE Technical Meeting & AGM 2024.
"Building a Blueprint for Industrial Decarbonisation in the East Coast Cluster"
"In early 2024, Costain successfully completed the front-end engineering design (FEED) of a 14km above ground CO2 gathering network, with a maximum design capacity of 3.8MTPA, that will connect key emitters North of the Tees to the NZT Power plant for compression and subsequent transportation to offshore storage for captured CO2 emissions. Due to the properties of CO2 as a fluid, other examples of CO2 pipelines and networks, use a wholly below ground infrastructure. Designing any element of a first-of-a-kind project is not without its complexities, including but not limited to understanding the impact on fluid properties and constructability. This project formed part of the development of the East Coast Cluster (ECC) and by reviewing its challenges and outcomes in this presentation it is hoped to provide a blueprint for similar CO2 transportation projects, in the drive towards net zero.”
